Daimler Innovations that save gas…and gas dollars

Diesel prices of yesteryear left a mark. The sting of sharp rises (exceeding the four dollar per-gallon mark) in fuel prices did have a positive impact. Green technologies and fuel- efficient practices have become commonplace and fortunately, fuel prices have dropped to manageable levels. Despite the stabilization of fuel prices however, semi truck manufacturers have not taken a back seat. Take for example, Daimler Trucks North America, and their feature Innovation Truck.
According to Autoblog.com, Daimler Trucks North American recently, “release(d) its latest concept in commercial-grade hauling. The Innovation Truck concept takes the fuel-saving innovations introduced on the Freightliner Cascadia, already the most aerodynamic of the company’s trucks, and turns them up to eleven,” (www.autoblog.com).
The Innovation Truck includes such fuel-efficient improvements as rear wheel fairings, underbody panels, front air splitter, and side mirrors that are actually cameras meaning they’re small and don’t slow down the ride. And to boot, the Innovation Truck features RunSmart Predictive Cruise control…not your minvan’s cruise control. The RunSmart is a technology that evaluates the upcoming road profile more than one mile in advance and
determines the most fuel-efficient vehicle speed.
2009 fuel efficient technologies appear to be a mainstay in the transportation industry. Next up…
