CSA 2010 is no longer looming on the horizon, it is here, and is certain to become the Motor Carrier’s primary focus area over the next 24 months. This new national safety initiative for commercial motor vehicles, was designed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) as a more efficient and effective method for targeting the safety problems of both motor carriers and their drivers. The program is aimed at reducing crashes and fatalities and thus, improving overall public safety. As this program evolves, its core safety measurement and regulatory compliance impact will be felt throughout the transportation sector, regardless of your fleet size, nature of operations, or historical fleet safety performance.
This link is being provided to you as a valued customer of The RSI Organization. While the vast majority of the data is taken directly from the FMCSA website, RSI believes the impact of this program to your day-to-day operations is so significant as to warrant the time and effort required to make it available in basic resource manual format.
While this linked information is current as of October, 2010, it should be understood by all users to be a work in progress. As with any major piece of regulatory legislation, especially one of this size and breadth, you can expect changes as the program evolves. Already, there have been petitions to the DOT and FMCSA from State Trucking Associations and the American Trucking Association (ATA) on behalf of its’ members regarding safety measurement methodology, especially as it relates to “Unfit” status. Accordingly, RSI urges you to monitor all pertinent changes by periodically visiting the FMCSA website at www.csa2010.fmcsa.dot.gov, or by visiting the RSI resource library through our Client-Connect service at www.rsiinsurancebrokers.com.
